Historic Downtown McKinney centers on the courthouse square and surrounding commercial streets. Shops, dining and public-art tours use the older buildings and blocks as a setting. The former Collin County Courthouse, used as the McKinney Performing Arts Center, is undergoing a city renovation project in 2026.

Chestnut Square Heritage Village lies south of the square and preserves a collection of historic houses and community buildings. Visit McKinney works with the city’s Historic Preservation Office on district tours, providing a useful way to distinguish the commercial square from nearby historic residential streets.

### Places to know

**Courthouse square.** The core of the historic downtown commercial district.

**Historic Collin County Courthouse.** The former courthouse has served as a performing-arts venue; check the city’s current renovation and reopening updates before planning an interior visit.

**Chestnut Square Heritage Village.** A collection of historic buildings south of the downtown square.

### Check at the address, not the town name

- Use the city’s preservation maps and design guidance to check the specific property; the commercial square and residential historic areas are different contexts.
- Check the city’s courthouse renovation and reopening updates before planning a performance or interior visit; historic-building access can change during the project.
- School attendance zones, flood risk, HOA obligations, utilities and property taxes follow the exact address.
