Getting to know Carrollton

Carrollton's local history and open space can be explored through several different places. The A.W. Perry Homestead Museum preserves a historic home and its grounds, while nearby Pearl Perry Gravley Park is used for community activities. Elm Fork Nature Preserve offers a woodland setting associated with the Trinity River's Elm Fork, providing a different kind of outdoor experience from a developed playground or sports field.

The preserve is maintained by the City of Carrollton under municipal park regulations, even though Dallas County also identifies it in the county open-space system. That overlap is a useful reminder to check the operator of a particular destination. For a home nearby, locate the usable entrance and trail route; for the homestead, check museum tours and events separately from access to the outdoor grounds.

Check at the address, not the town name

  • Confirm the entrance and trail access to Elm Fork Nature Preserve instead of assuming access from every nearby street.
  • Check the Perry Homestead Museum's current tour and exhibition schedule before planning a visit.
  • School attendance zones, flood risk, HOA obligations, utilities and property taxes follow the exact address. Use current records: TEA school district locator, FEMA flood maps, county appraisal districts.
