Getting to know Lakewood

Lakewood sits in East Dallas near White Rock Lake. The lake’s trails, shoreline parks and paddling access give the area an outdoor reference point, while the wider East Dallas area includes the Dallas Arboretum and the Bath House Cultural Center.

Lakewood also has a city-designated conservation district with architectural and cultural preservation goals. The everyday neighborhood name and the regulated conservation-district boundary are different things: the city’s map and ordinance are the appropriate starting point for a particular property.

Places to know

White Rock Lake. A city lake with a shoreline trail, parks and water recreation.

Bath House Cultural Center. An East Dallas arts venue on the lake with gallery and performance programming.

Lakewood Conservation District. A mapped city district with standards specific to its boundaries.

Check at the address, not the town name

  • Check the property’s location against the Lakewood conservation map before planning exterior changes or a new structure.
  • Use the actual lake entrance and trail connection when comparing locations; proximity on a map does not show the complete walking or cycling route.
  • School attendance zones, flood risk, HOA obligations, utilities and property taxes follow the exact address. Use current records: TEA school district locator, FEMA flood maps, county appraisal districts.
