Getting to know Waxahachie

Waxahachie’s historic downtown centers on the Ellis County Courthouse, with older commercial buildings, museums and public spaces around the square. The city’s visitor resources include historic walking and driving routes, allowing the commercial district and surrounding residential architecture to be explored separately.

Getzendaner Park is another long-established civic space and contains the Chautauqua Auditorium. Railyard Park and Lake Waxahachie provide different outdoor destinations. The historic districts, downtown square and lake area are distinct settings, so it helps to identify the actual neighborhood and address being considered.

Check at the address, not the town name

  • Check the city’s historic-district boundary and preservation guidance before planning work on an older house.
  • Use the specific park or lake access point when comparing locations; downtown, Getzendaner Park and Lake Waxahachie are separate destinations.
  • School attendance zones, flood risk, HOA obligations, utilities and property taxes follow the exact address. Use current records: TEA school district locator, FEMA flood maps, county appraisal districts.
