Getting to know Irving

Irving includes the Las Colinas urban center and the older Heritage District, each with different local landmarks. Mandalay Canal and Lake Carolyn provide waterside routes in Las Colinas, and the Mustangs sculpture stands at Williams Square. In south Irving, Heritage Park and Centennial Park tell parts of the city's railway and civic history, providing a separate starting point for exploring the area.

Waterfront destinations in Las Colinas and historic sites in south Irving should be mapped separately when considering an address. Canal walks, sculpture plazas, museum visits, and boat activities do not all have the same access arrangements. Trace the pedestrian route from the property, identify the public entrance, and consult the current visitor information for a specific activity rather than assuming unrestricted access to every waterside feature.

Check at the address, not the town name

  • Compare the address's actual walking route to the Mandalay Canal or Lake Carolyn; road proximity alone does not establish pedestrian access.
  • Check current access and activity arrangements for Heritage District sites and waterside operators individually.
  • School attendance zones, flood risk, HOA obligations, utilities and property taxes follow the exact address. Use current records: TEA school district locator, FEMA flood maps, county appraisal districts.
